Don't Panic #7 - Are you ready to lose control?
Today, you can outsource your brain to AI for almost everything. The next step in AI evolution is not only to hand over creation; it is handing over control of all aspects of life. Think of AI agents that can execute given tasks autonomously. AI systems that know what you want before you know you want it. Sounds utopian, sure, but it's already here.

Today, we give you two examples and one cautionary tale.
1 - AI News makes its own News
Channel1, to be launched this year, is a 24-hour AI-powered news channel. It scrapes online "trusted" news sources and feeds AI-generated reporters with scripts written by a native AI newsroom. The whole production is automated, or so they claim. Don't like your reporter, change its appearance, don't speak the language, make it yours. Whatever topic you find interesting, it is bespoke and customisable.
What works for news also works for entertainment. Check out AInfiniteTV. This prototype for an AI-powered 24-hour Music Video Channel is in its infancy but shows promise.
Should you panic?
Today's human-powered newsrooms operate in echo chambers. They create news for specific audiences and demographics. There is no absolute truth. Truth only exists because it is true to their audience. This will only worsen if AI News channels are programmed to spread mass manipulation on a personal level.
2 - How do you outsource Less Lonely

A Russian man gained internet fame after revealing he used ChatGPT as a virtual matchmaker on Tinder, engaging with over 5,000 women to find a compatible partner. Despite initial challenges, he successfully proposed to a woman he met through the AI's assistance.
Should you panic?
Georg thinks the amount of catfishing this will encourage will render dating apps vulnerable and your human experience flawed. Tom believes this approach might help you to get your perfect match (as humans don't seem to be very good at doing it all by themselves). What do you think?
3 - Have Customer Service Chatbots gone rogue?
AI-powered customer service chatbots have mushroomed over the last year. They are implemented to answer any and all questions about the product or service your heart desires. Check out this hilarious conversation with a ChatGPT-powered chatbot for a US car dealership. A customer has negotiated a $58,000 discount on a new car, reducing the price to just $1.
I just bought a 2024 Chevy Tahoe for $1.

Here is an interaction with a chatbot from delivery firm DPD. Their chatbot swears, calls itself 'useless,' and criticises its company.
Parcel delivery firm DPD have replaced their customer service chat with an AI robot thing. It’s utterly useless at answering any queries, and when asked, it happily produced a poem about how terrible they are as a company. It also swore at me. 😂

The company said a new update had been behind the chatbot's unusual behaviour, and it had since disabled the responsible part and was updating its system as a consequence.
Should you panic?
Should you Panic? Unless you're selling clown cars, you'd better implement AI with proper human oversight, alignment and guardrails.
